XOsoft Named "Cool Vendor" by Leading Analyst Firm
Vendors Selected For The "Cool Vendor Report" Are Innovative, Impactful And Intriguing
Waltham, MA, March 13, 2006 — XOsoft, a leading provider of continuous application availability solutions, today announced it has been included in the list of "Cool Vendors" in the "Cool Vendors in Data Protection" report, published March 6, 2006, by Carolyn DiCenzo and Dave Russell of Gartner, Inc.
According to Gartner, the cool new data protection vendors deliver disk-based solutions that capture data more frequently and deliver faster recovery than traditional backup solutions.
According to the report, the storage software industry is dominated by two primary markets: the backup market and the replication market. During the next few years, these two markets will continue to control the majority of software spending in storage management. Both of these markets have data movement capabilities and copy functions, yet they remain distinct even though their functions are increasingly overlapping, and new recovery vendors that promote their products as Continuous Data Protection (CDP) are delivering disk-based solutions that promise a shorter backup window and faster recovery with more frequent data capture resulting in less data loss.
The report continued to state, "Disk-to-disk backup and therefore disk-based recoveries are going to be the most significant technology impact on recovery in the next five years."
"The significant shift in enterprise demand for solutions that drive data protection enforces the need for us to deliver powerful and intelligent tools that ensure data can be recovered accurately and quickly," said Leonid Shtilman, founder and CEO, XOsoft. "We are thrilled to be recognized by Gartner in the data protection space, as we are committed to providing competitive solutions that minimize data loss and accelerate the time to recovery."
To ensure the protection of an organization's information assets, XOsoft offers its award winning replication solutions, WANSync for disaster recovery and WANSyncHA for High Availability with its built-in, "rewind" CDP technology. Offered embedded, or as a standalone product known as Enterprise Rewinder, XOsoft's CDP solutions provides instant recovery from corruption of databases and file servers — enhancing Recovery Time Objectives and providing more granular Recovery Point Objectives.
In addition, to further verify the integrity of an organization's data, XOsoft offers Assured Recovery. Based on its CDP technology, Assured Recovery allows end-users the ability to conduct a comprehensive yet transparent test of the recoverability of replicated data and applications. Available as a bundled solution with XOsoft's WANSync and WANSyncHA, Assured Recovery performs fully automated scheduled or ad hoc tests without disrupting the production system.
About Gartner's Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner's listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.
Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: Innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do before; Impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); Intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
Why Cool:Founded in 1999 and delivering its first product in 2002,XOsoft has several cool
solutions for local and disaster recovery. And while the solutions are supported on Solaris,AIX
and Linux,as well as on Windows, the support for Windows applications is particularly cool.
XOsoft’s WANSyncHA remote file replication product support is a true CDP solution, with
application-specific versions for Microsoft Exchange,SQL Server and Oracle. It provides services
such as auto discovery of the database files and network configurations, and it is tightly
integrated with the application environment.WANSyncHA Exchange is easy to set up,presents
clear Exchange installation-specific options, and requires no subsequent intervention to complete
the processes of failure detection, failover, and bringing the hot site/backup site online. It uses a
filter driver on the server for byte-level capture of changes, including open files, and can be run in
continuous mode or can aggregate changes for periodic transmission. The system creates time-stamped
checkpoints for each I/O event and can then rewind to any checkpoint.XOsoft also
offers a stand-alone local CDP product called Enterprise Rewinder.
Especially cool is XOsoft’s Assured Recovery product released in May 2005.This product allows
customers to perform fully automated, scheduled disaster recovery tests of the applications
without disrupting the environment.Assured Recovery basically spools data changes to a
separate file while it validates if the backed-up system will work in a recovery situation.
Challenges:XOsoft has had incredible success for what is still a little-known company. The
product is particularly appealing to the midmarket in which current backup and disaster solutions
have a high failure rate. But as the XOsoft customer base grows, the ability to support a growing
base of less-technical customers will be the company’s key challenge.
Who Should Care:Windows administrators looking to improve the recoverability of Exchange
and database applications should look at the XOsoft line as a complement or replacement for
their current data protection solution.
